Healing is about creating change that you do choose"
Hello, I'm Carrie...
I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, working in Cannock in Staffordshire.
I studied for my BSc (Hons) degree in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI) in Nottingham. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to the BACP ethical framework and SPTI code of conduct.
Although I am able to support you with any issues you choose to bring to therapy, I have a special interest and skill in working with Relational or Developmental Trauma. I continue to complete continued professional development to ensure that I am trained to a high standard and to enrich the service I am able to provide.
I work with adult individuals who are seeking better emotional well-being, improved relationships and healing from past traumas, such as a difficult childhood, abuse and relational problems.
I know that making the decision to see a therapist is a huge step forward and that this can be daunting, I aim to provide you with the information you need to help you decide if therapy is right for you.
Our work together will take place in a comfortable and supportive environment; in which we can address, process and explore whatever issue is troubling you. We will work at your pace, you set the agenda.
WHAT IS RELATIONAL TRAUMA
Wounding in Relationships
Do any of the following experiences seem familiar to you?
·It's a struggle to keep a sense of normality
·It's difficult to manage your emotions, or you often feel emotionally numb
·You experience unpredictable anxiety, panic, or flashbacks
·You have a sense of emptiness, and often feel lost and alone
·You find yourself unable to remember periods of time, or have gaps in your memory
·You feel a deep sense of shame, and have very little or no self worth
· Maybe you feel people would be better off without you
If so, counselling and psychotherapy can be life changing.
We as human beings, are created in relationship - our views, thoughts, beliefs and feelings about ourselves and the world are constructed within our experiences of relationships with others right from birth.
When our relationships, particularly with our parents or care-givers is substandard, troubled, neglectful or abusive; we are unable to develop a good, true sense of self. Relational or Developmental Trauma, such as childhood abuse and neglect affects everything, our brain, our beliefs about the world and our ability for healthy relationships with ourselves and others. Relational traumas can occur in our adult experiences of toxic, abusive and difficult relationships throughout our lives.
I believe that the wounds and traumas that we suffer in relationship - be it recent or historic, with a parent, lover, spouse or other, lie at the root of emotional and social dis-ease. I also believe that these relational wounds cannot be repaired alone or single-handed; they must be healed in relationship. And so, I offer a restorative therapeutic relationship – built on trust and at your pace, in order to heal the wounds.
For me, the therapeutic relationship between us is the therapy, I will use my knowledge and skill to enrich our therapeutic relationship and support you as we work together towards repair and healing.

WHAT IS COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Counselling is an opportunity to work through your problems with someone who is professionally trained and impartial to the situation you find yourself in. A qualified counsellor is trained in listening and in creating a safe and supportive environment. This space can help you to clarify, understand, process resolve and repair problems, issues and wounds which are troubling you.
Psychotherapy is all of the above but tends to work at a deeper emotional or relational level. It works to heal inner unresolved conflicts or deeper emotional or psychological issues within yourself. Psychotherapy usually takes place over a longer time frame.
WHAT WOULD WE TALK ABOUT IN SESSION?
The simple answer to this is, whatever you want to. The session is guided by you, and what you bring to therapy. I won’t ever tell you what to talk about or set the agenda. The time is yours, however you would like to use it.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
There is no simple answer to this. It is based on your individual needs. Some people find a short course of therapy (around 6-12 sessions) adequate to resolve whatever is troubling them. Other people feel that they would benefit from long term therapy. This is something we will check out together, discussing this together in our first session and also as we go along. I see many clients on a long-term basis if that is what they choose. However, you are free to end therapy whenever you would like.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN MY FIRST SESSION
Following our telephone contact, we will book in an initial session. In this session we will talk a little more about what your expectations of therapy might be. The first session is a mutual assessment, for me to better understand your needs and also for us both to decide if we can work together. There will be some paperwork to complete in the first session, such as a therapy agreement.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?
My fee for individual sessions are
£50 for a 50-minute session.
Payment is required in advance, to reserve your session. Payment is then on a rolling basis to reserve the following session.
Payment can be made at the start of the session, by cash. Alternatively, you can pay before the session, by bank transfer.
I love helping my clients to develop the tools they need to cope with all of life’s challenges, improve self esteem and confidence and live happy healthy lives. Contact me today to learn more and book a session.
